The rebel armies marched onward from Boffin and Lufield. Their numbers had grown greatly and things looked bleak for the Imperials who had been mismanaged by Councilman Batron Drag. Outnumbered three to one, the village of Red Barrow surrendered without giving a fight, strengthening the rebel hold on the area.
In Iron Keep, scouting reports came in on the rebel's advances. Not long after the body of the Keeps's steward, Bernard had been discovered dead, and Councilman Drag missing. This threw the fortress into a greater state of disarray. Soldiers began to abandon their posts, and the number difference grew even greater. There were some that were determined to stay and defend, but defeat was unavoidable. Days later, the rebel army crossed the river and the remaining soldiers stayed in the fortress, defending the best they could. The fate of Iron Keep would soon be decided.

With the campaign quickly going sour for the Imperial factions, Finn - having been placed as governor of the recently conquered Lindenbrook - knew that diplomacy wasn't an option for him, given his horrible social skills. He arranged an army of the most stalwart soldiers from Iron Keep, under the command of Aurelia Mays and sent them to reinforce the keep. He retained the soldiers he had acquired, originally, from Lindenbrook and his personal retinue that he had recently been gathering. With the rebels nearing, he released the prisoners originally captured during and offered furlough of the conscripts - he quickly installed the old headwoman of the town as a figurehead and sent messengers to the rebel army that he was surrendering the city to them. "I may not be worth much in a conversation, but I am worth a lot in a battle because that is something I understand." He informed the half-elf woman as he released her from her house arrest. "I know suicide when I see it. I never really had any attachment to the Empire, myself. But I made you a promise that I'd return a favor to you. And so I will ensure your village is spared from the coming wave of death as best I can." With that Lindenbrook was fell to the rebels and Finn retired from the fighting, taking up a role as captain of the guard for the village with his personal army - whether they really wanted him around, or not.

Geryon couldn't help but let a tight smile slip when the Iron Keep came into sight at last. The other rebel army was already entrenched outside it, beginning the siege and now the second flank was arriving, completing the great pincer attack he had engineered. The mercenary felt a swell of pride. After all, he had served as the logistical quarter master of the campaign, laid out the grand strategy, and even personally co-commanded one wing of the attack, securing several victories in the process. Word if of his prowess in logistics, strategy and tactics was sure to have spread wide enough that he would never have a lack of work again. But if the rebels lived up to their word, none of that might matter. He would soon be either a very rich man or a very powerful one.

As the news of Iron Keep falling into the hands of the rebels spread around, Marcellin Van Arouet just closed his eyes. The fact that a known garrison which was for a long time led by prominent figures was telling of the great decline that the Empire had hidden from its populace. Their general disregard for the people and their debauchery had led to this devastation, and Marcellin felt that the time was ripe to destroy the Empire and institute a new order in the land. To this effect, he wrote a lot of treatises on a lot of subjects, but most of them pointing towards a new form of society that should replace the old and antiquated one. But a plague struck a part of the city that Marcellin was in, and he instantly succumbed to the effects of this plague. The Purple Fox Mercantile Company, the merchant company that he had created with his own hands, fell under the hands of Lumnock Awespeaker, as Marcellin's right hand man, Kieran Lambert, disappeared right after Marcellin's death. But Lumnock, although an efficient merchant, was a bad administrator, and so, even while the Purple Fox Mercantile Company flourished, its leaders fell into disarray, until the time when Anaximander Henderson assumed the post of being the leader.
