Once upon a time it was the overbearing timber columns of the palace where Northhold was ruled from, but when the old governor surrendered to the slave mobs the castle was burned to the ground. Rebuilt upon it was a new castle - one significantly smaller in stature, but more grandiose in popularity. Gone were the bronze statues of old leaders, the stone visages of the slave owners who had ruled over the rebels for so long. But oh-boy were there banners a plenty! Curtains, rugs, shawls, all over the place! That's what happens when you put the folks from a weaver's guild in charge of a city - you get textiles all over the place. The old palace had been converted into a public space for recreation, entertainment, and education - the old Weaver's Guild building, closer to the center of town, had become the new ruling house of the city. Long the headquarters of the slave rebellion, it became the new castle of the realm.
Adorned with banners representing the new city - a 3-petaled flower with each petal bearing a different color: Red, Blue, Yellow - all on a green background. Each of the colors represented one of the original, founding members of the rebellion - their houses to become the ruling houses of this new republic.
Red, the color of the South, Blue the color of the North, Yellow the color of the West, and Green the color of the east - given the honor of being the base of their flag by virtue of the eastern house being elected the first ruler.
The guild hall was, after all, the second largest building in the city after the castle. With the old slaves now in charge they reclaimed what had once been used against them - holding cells were now for prisoners awaiting trial, the courtyard where slave auctions were once held was now a training ground for new recruits, the old conference chambers became a magisterial court, the looms replaced with desks for administrative activities, and the storehouses - once full of linens - converted into silage and treasuries.
In the center of it all was Conall's personal office - attached to the public conference room where citizens could bring their petitions for review.
