Hehe, there is no water color in that one - the water is transparent. I suppose it could be affected by your browser settings to turn black instead of white, sometimes. I can change that.

Must have been what it did, cause when I opened the link it was all black.

Here it is with a nice powder blue color for water. Given the similarity to Echizen, I changed the province into a more purple color.

Do you think the addition of roads on the map would hamper the players, by giving them established routes between provinces to attack by, thereby limiting their options in attack to those provinces connected by roads, or simply to have them able to attack into any adjacent province? My next question, will there be individual cities, or will it be like this version where the province is the only tract of land that matters? If we added individual cities, we could extend the length of the game substantially while keeping the balance of power between factions somewhat even for a longer period of time, so that one faction doesn't steamroll the others from the get go, say in the case of a faction having more players than the others.

I would say roads are unnecessary, personally. The bright pink lines on the map are the generally accepted 'impassible' areas of mountain ranges, such as in Kii, but I don't think they actually block anything on that map fully.
Along those lines, though, what are our thoughts on the actual storyline itself? Are we going to the route that we went with for this round of the game and present as such: The Onin War has occurred, essentially, and Lords Hosokawa and Yamana are dead and it's just the free-for-all that follows. Or are we doing a story actually occurring during the Onin War?
If we are doing one where the Hosokawa and Yamana are still fully active what kind of territory are we looking at GM rulers having in the region? A Yamana historically owned Iga (which I notice I forgot to label on the map, I'll try to remember to do that in future versions of the map), if I recall, and the Hosokawa owned Settsu and Tanba. Yamashiro, of course, is the home of Kyoto - so it would be owned by the Shogunate. The Hatakeyama were a powerful local family important to the Onin actions, they would have owned Kii and Kawachi, I believe. The Rokkaku were powerful in the Omi region, the Shiba to the northeast, Toki to the east, Ishikki to the north, etc.
Or are we hardlining the story to remove as many GM rulers as possible? The Yamana are ousted from Iga, Hosokawa vassal defects in Settsu, only the splintered Shogunal court remains in Yamashiro, something like that?

I don't think we'll need roads either.
As for the story, I think I would like to do something where the Hosokawa, Yamana and the Shogunate are on map presences. Anyone who wants to have a ruling clan can still do so, and rather choose to follow one of the two or be independent. I would like to keep it low on the number of GMNPC's again (such as William's force being the only one), or maybe pull a page out of Phailak's book and people could anonymously play the NPCs?

I voted the British islands..... Just to shake it up lol. I'm going to see if I can replicate Japan in my other world mapper program. See what I get. I'll post it here when I get.
