Taxes should be in April. If you conquer it here in the March turn; it should still be before tax time. Unless it takes you another whole month to hunt down those last 39 troops, of course.

Or Mercia craps out another army somehow. But what weird kind of reserve would they have to basically quadruple the known army counts of other provinces? >.>
Mercia would've secretly been the superpower of the Isles, in that case.
Also, I've been meaning to ask, I'm liking your RPs and the Scandinavian knowledge and lore you add to it. Is that something you started for this sim, or is it something you had pre-existing knowledge of?

Well, if I did not Confuse that final unit maybe it would have suicided. Or, perhaps it would Jeer. If Woods were not there the bowmen could have finished it. Probably one of the most frustrating but overall, fun battles I’ve had in a while. It’s also the first with the troop types and the characters. I underestimated the Mercia force numbers. I expected 500-600.

Is that something you started for this sim, or is it something you had pre-existing knowledge of? I had some knowledge of Nordic stuff previously, but I did a bunch of research last year when I wrote a book about a viking who serves Sigurd Hring. His name was Ulven av Nordland. And I recycled everything for Katerina's character, then mixed it with my character from Expeditions: Viking (also named Katerina) to come up with the final product. Well, if I did not Confuse that final unit maybe it would have suicided. Or, perhaps it would Jeer. If Woods were not there the bowmen could have finished it. I expected 500-600. Yeah, I underestimated York when I first invaded. I thought catapults would do more damage and that just one infantry unit could keep them pinned down; but they had way more officers than I expected, so I backed out of it and regrouped.

I'm almost expecting to arrive in Sussex and be met with like, one thousand troops, 500 of which are war elephants or axe men on crocodiles or something like that haha. But we'll see what happens!!

Well, we know from previous battles that FitzOsbern has stables, because so far he's been the only person to field cavalry.
Cavalry's too expensive for my blood.

I've played too much Shogun 2 to trust cavalry.
And I used to be all about cavalry-oriented PCs. Now, any time I see an unwashed peasant with a pointy stick, I get triggered...

Agreed. It's so much more expensive, when I can craft a ton of axes and bows for the same cost as half as many cavalry. We'll see in the future though.
I've never played Shogun 2... So I can't speak from experience. However, I've never been really big on being cavalry-oriented, I tend to stick more to either ranged character, or range with an option for melee.

I would not rule Cavalry out. They have a bonus against all infantry types (excluding Spears) and the extra movement can be very helpful. It's definitely a later game unit type.

I agree. When the time comes, perhaps...
So who's ready for the super intense first round battle between Thorfinn and Brennan?! -waves hands in air excitedly-

I would be, if that big idiot didn't have a 10 Str advantage over me.
Stupid government-subsidized champions...

Hey, everything we do in Northumbria is fair and square!... So long as you have a tenuous definition of the words "fair" and "square" and maybe the words "everything" and "is" as well.

That's right. Besides, you've got higher initiative - which means that you get to hit him first...
...and then watch as he grins and explains that this isn't even his final form. =D

Thorfinn = Frieza CONFIRMED.
But hey, at least now we all know where he was.
